    Photodynamic Therapy for Acne

Photodynamic Therapy for AcnePhotodynamic Therapy or PDT is a special treatment performed with a topical photosensitizing agent called Levulan (ALA).  When ALA is applied to the skin and activated by a laser, IPL device or BLU-U light source, it has the unique ability to minimize pores, reduce oil glands and redness.  It is fantastic for treating stubborn acne vulgaris, acne rosacea, some acne scars, sun damage, fine lines and blotchy pigmentation.

To achieve maximum improvement, a series of 3 – 4 treatments 4 weeks apart is the most effective although some patients are happy with just one treatment.  Additional treatments can be done at periodic intervals in the future to maintain the rejuvenated appearance of the skin.

For an advanced treatment, Dr. Roberts uses ALA  in conjunction with her IPL photofacials or Vbeam laser treatments in combination with our BLU-U light.
