WHAT IS LUMECCA?

Lumecca is the most powerful intense pulsed light (IPL) to treat pigmented and vascular lesions. After use, patients notice significant improvements in the complexion and clarity of the skin. Lumecca operates using photothermolysis, which provides a photofacial through the delivery of a comfortable light treatment.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Lumecca improves the appearance of the skin including age spots (red/brown pigmentations), sun damage, vascular lesions (spider veins, port wine stains, leg telangliectasias), rosacea (redness), and freckles.

WHICH AREAS OF THE BODY CAN BE TREATED?

Lumecca can be used on all areas of the body. The most common areas of treatment are zones that are regularly exposed to the sun. These often include the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands and arms.

HOW QUICKLY WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Sun damage and skin complexion results can be seen a few days after the first session. The skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time with most visible results after 1-2 weeks. Having multiple photofacial sessions will improve the final result. For vascular treatments such as spider or leg veins, results can be seen immediately in up to 2 weeks.

Are there any special instructions before my first treatment?

Dr. Roberts requires strict sun avoidance before and between treatments to prevent healing with white spots which can be permanent. Avoid self-tanning products for 6 – 8 weeks before treatment. Avoid blood thinners 2 weeks before treatment to prevent bruising All patients must be off Isotretinoin (Accutane, Claravis, Sotret or Amnesteem) for 6 months before starting any laser treatment. Otherwise, the skin may heal abnormally and be at increased risk of permanent scarring.

Are IPL treatments uncomfortable?

Most patients experience a feeling of heat in the skin, but this is well tolerated.  Some patients opt to use topical numbing cream for 20-30 minutes prior to the procedure and/or a Zimmer cooler which blows cold air on the skin.

What can I expect after treatment?

Your skin will feel red and warm like a mild sunburn for the first few days. Brown spots will immediately look darker and fall off on their own over the next 3-5 days as you gently wash the treated area(s). You will be given detailed after care instructions in our office. Make up can be applied after 12 hours. Most patients resume their normal daily activities by the next day.
